Bonjour, je m'appelle Rebecca.
I am Rebecca Hao, a senior at Harvard College studying Computer Science and Linguistics. I'm really interested in the intersections between language, the brain, and technology. I am especially excited by the idea that by better understanding humans, we can better design for and empower humanity.
Currently, I am doing research in Glassman Lab on Human-in-the-loop NLP and Programming Linguistics. I am an incoming Software Engineer at Google, and am broadly interested in continuing to continue to grow in realms research, technical, and communication.
Beyond schoolwork and research, I enjoy singing/piano/music/a bit of composition (Spotify listening, 唱吧 Profile), Taekwondo, language learning (Add me (rhaor) on Duolingo), curling up with a good book (Goodreads profile), thinking about personal growth/development/mindfulness, and having good talks with family and friends. ^_^
Recent exciting things:
- I presented at the PLATEAU 2019 Workshop on potential directions in exploring polyglot programming, inspired by psycholinguistic studies of bilingualism. The workshop paper (Rebecca L. Hao and Elena L. Glassman): Approaching Polyglot Programming: What Can We Learn from Bilingualism Studies?.
- In MUSIC 4, Introduction to Composition, I composed piece for string quartet called mediteɪʃən, that looked to express our inner voice both in this hectic world and in attempts at meditation.
- I am currently working on a project with Eric Lin advised by Elena Glassman on harnessing human intelligence (via interaction) to improve machine translation.
